The Yagi Optimizer
This disk contains program and data files for the YO Yagi Optimizer.
The following files are included:
YO.EXE Yagi Optimizer Program
YO.DOC Documentation for YO.EXE
PLOT.EXE High Resolution Plotting Program
PLOT.DOC Documentation for PLOT.EXE
HERCULES.COM Graphics Driver for the HGC
TED.COM Text Editor Program
*.YAG Yagi Library Files
READ.ME This File
Printing the Documentation
The documentation files for YO and PLOT are DOS text files formatted
for direct viewing on your screen, using either the DOS TYPE command or your
own text file viewing program. The documentation files do not contain margins,
nor are they divided into pages. YO contains a formatting print utility which
will add margins and pages while printing a text file. Use the following
commands to invoke the print utility for the YO documentation files:
YO PRINT YO.DOC
YO PRINT PLOT.DOC
Running from Floppy Disk
If you are running directly from floppy you should first make a backup
copy of the distribution disk. Then create some free space on your working
disk before executing any programs. To do this you may delete the
documentation files after you have copied them to another disk. Do not
write-protect the working disk, and be sure to read item 3 below.
Running from Hard Disk
Copy the contents of the distribution disk into a single directory on
your hard disk. Then read YO.DOC to find out how to set up subdirectories for
Yagi files and plot files.
Text Editor
A simple text editor from PC Magazine has been included so that you may
create and edit Yagi files. You may also use any other text editor or
wordprocessor. See YO.DOC for more details.
Troubleshooting
If you have problems running YO on your computer check the following:
1. Be sure you have enough usable memory. YO requires at least 250K free
bytes, and 150K more are required when PLOT is invoked directly from YO for
high-resolution plotting. You may have 512K of memory installed but 150K of
resident programs, leaving too little room to run YO and PLOT simultaneously.
2. Remove any resident programs and try YO. Some resident programs can
cause undesirable interactions with programs loaded subsequently.
3. The DOS program COMMAND.COM must be accessible to YO and PLOT. To
ensure this execute the following command at the DOS prompt:
SET COMSPEC=Drive:\COMMAND.COM
where Drive indicates the disk drive containing COMMAND.COM (in the root
directory) while running YO. If you are using a single floppy disk system you
must either copy COMMAND.COM from your DOS disk onto the working YO disk, or
put COMMAND.COM into a small RAM disk in memory. See your DOS manual for more
information.
4. Try starting YO with a Yagi filename on the command line, for example,
YO 204SSB. This may be helpful if you are using an older version of DOS. DOS
versions earlier than 3.00 contain a bug which may cause YO to hang up when
listing available Yagi files or when calling PLOT.
5. If you have MS-DOS 3.20, a math coprocessor, and boot from a hard disk,
you may be affected by another bug in DOS. If YO hangs up after reading a Yagi
file then try the following workaround: reboot and make any reference to your
floppy disk drive, such as reading a directory, before starting YO. This bug
is not present in DOS versions other than 3.20. A patch to DOS which will
eliminate this bug is available from Microsoft.
6. As a last resort please reread YO.DOC carefully.
7. If you believe that you have received a defective disk do not return
it. Instead, contact K6STI for a replacement.
